The project PART 72   Main characteristics
Brainchild of Gianni Salvaterra, the project PART 72 sees the creation of a series of eight art books on the game of golf. Printed in limited edition, the eight volumes will be illustrated by 72 internationally known contemporary artists (9 artists per volume), and each artist’s work will be accompanied by a text by a king, international writer or poet who has lived the history of golf.
The name of the series comes from the combination of the word “ART” with the ideal number of shots “PAR 72” which must be taken on a golf course to complete the regulation 18 holes. From the union of PAR 72 and the word ART comes the name of the project, PART 72.
Each volume carries the name of a golf club in ancient Scots. The first volume is called Cleek, a term which defined the “number 1 iron” in nineteenth century Scotland.
The work consists of a hardbound double slipcase covered in velvet and canvas, contained in a screen-printed velvet bag. Each slipcase contains ten folders, each with eight pages, printed in colour on Tintoretto Fedrigoni Ceylon Crystal Salt paper.
Nine folders are dedicated to works by contemporary artists who have expressed their philosophy on the game of golf: Loris Cecchini, Franco Fontana, Maurizio Galimberti, Jenny Holzer, Ugo Nespolo, Mel Ramos, Andres Serrano, Andy Warhol and Lawrence Weiner.
The nine folders also include texts by kings, writers and historic figures including: King Charles I of England, William Graham, George Fullerton Carnegie, the Archbishop John Hamilton of St. Andrews, James Ballantine and the kings of Scotland James II, James III, James IV and James VI. The tenth folder is an introduction to the work, in the form of an interview with Gillo Dorfles.

Limited edition, numbered from 0 to 648.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of the work will be donated to the charity “Fondazione Legato Dino Ferrari” for research into and the treatment of Muscular Dystrophy.
